West Mobile Academy

West Mobile Academy is a day treatment program operated by BayPointe Hospital in collaboration with the Mobile County Public School System (MCPSS) as well as Chickasaw, Saraland, and Satsuma City School Systems. It provides a therapeutic classroom environment and structured day treatment setting for elementary, middle, and high school students who receive special education services but are unable to maintain appropriate behaviors in a public school setting.

Criteria for West Mobile Academy: 

  • Current enrollment with MCPSS or city school system
  • Minimum IQ of 70
  • Must qualify for special education services in one of the following areas: emotional disability, specific learning disability, autism, developmental delay, or other impairment.
  • Exhibit any combination of at least five of the following behaviors: attention-seeking, poor personal boundaries, poor social skills, poor self-control, aggressive, hyperactivity, defiance towards authority, manipulative, withdrawal/depression/anxiety, temper tantrums.

Students receive:

  • Academic instruction by certified teachers
  • Individual, family and group therapy
  • Cooperative skills training
  • Basic living skills
  • Activity therapy
  • Psychiatric assessment and medication management
  • School system transportation
  • Behavior-focused summer camp
