BAYPOINTE Hospital

BayPointe Hospital

Who We Are

BayPointe Hospital opened its doors in 2002 as a free-standing psychiatric hospital serving the Mobile community, originally specializing in children’s inpatient care. Located on a beautiful 15-acre campus in West Mobile, BayPointe has expanded its services to provide comprehensive psychiatric care for both children and adults.

BayPointe Hospital offers short-term stabilization in an inpatient setting, long-term treatment in a residential setting for children and adolescents, and day treatment programs designed to support ongoing recovery. For adults, BayPointe offers a comprehensive continuum of inpatient psychiatric services, focusing on stabilizing symptoms, restoring functioning, and facilitating a safe transition back into the community.

Admission to BayPointe involves careful consideration of the individual’s needs. For children and adolescents, many have faced challenges such as abuse, neglect, or substance use and require intensive intervention. They may present with disruptive, uncontrollable, suicidal, aggressive, or otherwise unsafe behaviors, making it difficult to function safely in their homes and communities. For adults, admission is appropriate for those experiencing psychiatric crises that place them at risk of harm to themselves or others or that interfere with their ability to live independently.

Our Programs

BayPointe Hospital’s crisis stabilization and residential programs are located on the same campus. Patients can transition fluidly between programs, depending on the level of care and the duration of treatment required. Children and adults are kept on separate wings of the hospital. BayPointe’s qualified staff provides supervision 24 hours a day, 7 days per week throughout their stay.

When a child or teen living with a psychiatric illness cannot thrive in the home or a community-based setting, an intensive, structured program may be prescribed. BayPointe Hospital’s intensive residential program cares for children 5 to 12 years of age and adolescents 13 to 18 years of age. The program provides medically monitored intensive and comprehensive psychiatric treatment. The average length of stay is nine to 12 months.

West Mobile Academy is a day treatment program operated by BayPointe Hospital in collaboration with the Mobile County Public School System as well as Chickasaw, Saraland, and Satsuma City School Systems. It provides a therapeutic classroom environment and structured day treatment setting for elementary, middle, and high school students who receive special education services but are unable to maintain appropriate behaviors in a public school setting. During holiday breaks and summer breaks, BayPointe offers day treatment camps to provide students with a structured environment and maintain progress toward treatment goals.

BayPointe is accredited by The Joint Commission, certified by the Alabama Department of Mental Health and licensed by the Alabama Department of Public Health. It is a division of AltaPointe Health, the most comprehensive psychiatric and behavioral healthcare provider in Alabama.

AltaPointe has provided care since 1957, operating as Mobile Mental Health Center until it was rebranded in 2007. In addition to BayPointe, AltaPointe offers a comprehensive continuum of care for children and teens including outpatient, day treatment, residential and transitional age programs, all of which are tracked and monitored through electronic medical records.
