CRISIS SERVICES
Behavioral Health Crisis Center
The Behavioral Health Crisis Center (BHCC) is located in the Fred Delchamps building in Mobile. Services are available by calling (251) 662-8000. The center is a medically monitored, short-term residential service offering 23-hour observation beds and a crisis stabilization unit for individuals experiencing a psychiatric crisis and is designed to provide round-the-clock observation, medication, therapy, and psychiatric care. The BHCC employs psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, and other mental healthcare workers to care for individuals in need of assistance during a crisis.
Who does the BHCC serve? The center is designed to serve individuals with serious mental illness and substance use disorder. A person experiencing a psychiatric crisis can walk in on their own or with a family member, be brought in by the Crisis Response Team, or by law enforcement.
Medically-Managed Withdrawal Unit

Justice and Mental Health Collaborative
AltaPointe Health is proud to be a partner in the Mobile Justice and Mental Health Collaborative, an initiative designed to improve access to mental health services for individuals living with serious mental illness while strengthening public safety across our community.
This collaboration brings together mental health professionals and law enforcement to respond more effectively and compassionately to mental health crises. The shared goal is to divert individuals with serious mental illness away from jail and emergency departments whenever possible and connect them to appropriate treatment and ongoing support.
A Tiered Approach to Care and Safety
Crisis Response Training for Law Enforcement
AltaPointe works alongside the law enforcement agencies from across its service area to develop and deliver specialized training for officers. This curriculum equips law enforcement with the skills needed to recognize mental health crises, de-escalate situations safely, and connect individuals to appropriate care.
Co-Responder Pilot Program
The collaborative supports a co-responder model that pairs a mental health clinician with a law enforcement officer during responses to mental health–related calls. Clinicians provide on-site assessments, immediate intervention, and rapid connection to mental health services, helping individuals access care when they need it most.
Stepping Up Initiative
The Stepping Up Initiative is a national effort focused on reducing the number of people with serious mental illness in local jails. It brings together mental health providers, law enforcement, and justice partners to identify individuals with mental illness early, connect them to treatment while incarcerated, and link them to community-based services upon release, helping reduce repeat arrests and improve long-term outcomes.
In-Home Wraparound Services
For individuals with serious mental illness who have frequent contact with law enforcement, AltaPointe provides intensive, in-home wraparound services. These teams address underlying factors that contribute to repeated arrests, such as lack of income, housing instability, and substance use, while supporting long-term recovery and stability.
Connecting Individuals to Ongoing Care
Together with AltaPointe’s Adult Outpatient Services, this collaborative ensures individuals receive timely care, ongoing treatment, and the support needed to build stability and create safer communities for all.
